Mabrey, Angie

Mrs. Mabrey
I'm Angie Mabrey.

I grew up in Gadsden and attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with an Elementary Education degree enabling me to teach K-6th grade. After graduating, I taught Kindergarten in the city schools there and then returned to live in Gadsden. I continued my educating by earning my Master's degree in Early Childhood Education here at the Gadsden division of the University. I've taught in public school, home-school, the Community College (GSCC), and now I've returned to the public school classroom. Even in my childhood, I enjoyed being around and working with children. I love to help them think, learn and reach their full potential!

I married Matt Mabrey after graduating from college, but we met in high school! He attended Auburn University and graduated from Pharmacy school before we married thirty years ago. We have two children, Matthew and Meredith. Matthew also attended Auburn and graduated in Computer Engineering and currently lives in Madison, AL with his wife, Hannah. My daughter, Meredith, is a senior at Auburn, soon to graduate in Clinical Laboratory Science. She works in the Medical Lab there and will begin an internship this summer. They were my full-time job for most of 15 years and it was a blessing to get to be with them in their young lives.

I feel that the early years of a child's life are crucial to preparing their minds to learn. Young children need positive interaction with people, exposure to a wide variety of learning experiences, and nurturing and involvement from their families. This will enable their brains to fully develop and their IQs to increase. I strongly encourage parents to read to their children often from an early age to introduce them to new information and instill in them a love of learning.

I set high expectations for students in my classroom. I expect children to show respect, try their best, and participate at school. I, in turn, will respect them and make every effort to meet their individual learning needs. I recognize that children have various learning styles therefore I will integrate many different teaching techniques to reach every child. My classroom has rules to follow so it can have an atmosphere conducive to learning. I use positive reinforcement through words, actions, stickers, smiles, high-fives, and more to help them enjoy school. Children recognize when an adult is genuinely interested in them, and I love getting to know my students!
