Parent Information

Attendance:  It is important that your child attends school each day unless he/she is sick.  If your child has been absent, please send a note or doctor’s excuse when they return.  If a note is not received, the absence is marked unexcused and no tests missed that day may be made up.

School Hours:  The tardy bell rings at 7:45.  We begin our daily schedule very soon thereafter.  Please make every effort to be on time each day. For students who arrive late, they feel like they are running behind and it creates a distraction for those who are already settled.

Lunch:  First Grade has lunch from 10:50 until 11:15.  Please do not bring any “fast” food in the lunchroom in the original wrapping or bags.

Snack:  We have snack at 1:00 each day.  Please send some type of snack with your child daily.  No candy please.

Birthdays:  You may drop off store-bought cookies or cupcakes to help celebrate your child’s birthday.  These treats are typically shared during our snack time. If you send party invitations, please make sure you send one for each child in the classroom. No one likes feeling left out.

Conduct:  Any student who receives a conduct grade below 70/C in any 9-week grading period will not be allowed to attend field trips. At the beginning of each week your child has 100 points for conduct. After the first warning, your child will receive -5pts and with each offence afterward for the day, -10pts. The total number of points at the end of each week is the weekly conduct grade. Each weekly grade is averaged at the end of the nine weeks for the report card average.

Communication Notebook: Each student will have a Communication Notebook also known as a C-book. They will copy the day and date into the book each morning. Any notes about conduct for the day will also be written in there by the teacher. The students weekly conduct grade will be written in the notebook on Fridays. Any communication from home may also be written in the C-book. If there is a change in the way your child will be going home, please include it in the C-book or send a message through Remind in order to cut down on calls through the office. Important notes or reminders about school events will be stapled to the current page in the notebook. It is the child's responsibility to have a parent sign the notebook each day so the teacher will know that you are aware of what is happening at school. It is the responsibility of the student to make sure they bring their notebook to school each day.

Medication:  Never send medication to school with your child.  All medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, must be delivered to the school nurse by a parent and must have the proper paperwork with it.

Conferences:  First grade teachers are only available for conferences during the school day during our planning time, 1:25– 2:10.  Please call or send a message through Remind or in the C-book to schedule any conferences for this time period, or for after 3:00.
